Best Friend

I was so excited for this prompt to pop up!
Best Friend
I figure it is time for me to introduce two very special little girls to this audience.
Say hello to Fiona Guinea (Guinea Ninja) and Abby Ferret (Phonetic Ferret).

"Lizzy gets by with a little help from her friends."
These two also have wonderful stories to tell :)

Addiction

What would a Little squirrel girl from Nebraska be addicted to?

Black

my prompt for today was Black.
dedicated to my cat of like 12 years, Cole. :)

"Who says black cats are unlucky?"

Tomorrow

My Prompt for today was "Tomorrow".
Honestly the song Tomorrow is my least favorite part of the whole musical, but I like seeing Lizzy in the red dress.
"Leapin' Lizards! Lizzy Squirrel sure loves musicals!"

The heart must pause to breathe

My prompt for today was, The Heart Must Pause to Breathe.
as quoted by Drew Barrymore and many others
"Just Breathe."

Beards

the prompt for today was beard. A little girl squirrel with a beard. I was't sure how to make that work. My first thought was for her to have a bubble beard but I have now drawn Lizzy in or around water 7 times this month 3 in the last 3 days. I'm done with water for now.
I worked in a amusement park for two summers, most the time I was a ride operator, if we were short-staffed I was put in the Cotton Candy Shed. That stuff sticks to you like nobody's business, on those days my black shoes would turn blue and pink.
Now my homage to the hot sticky days in the Cotton Candy Shed.
"Cotton candy beards, were the yummiest type of beards."

Oceans

Prompt for today was Ocean. I was semi bummed since the last two have involved water but I like how it turned out.
"Where oceans rise Lizzy feels very small."

If you have not heard Oceans by Hillsong United, you are missing out. It has been a very big theme for me for awhile now.

Listen and reflect.

Danger and Rescue

When I took swimming lessons as a kid I had the meanest ol' lady as an instructor there was many times in practice tears were shed. I absolutely hated  lessons. Probably why I am not the most skilled swimmer to this day.
Prompt : Danger and Rescue
and oops forgot the dialogue.
"Lizzy Squirrel, regretted the decision of taking off her floaties."

Ocean's Path

Today's prompt was Ocean's Path.
I really love how this one turned out. It is one I wish I could scan in to show the details.
"Lizzy Squirrel, adored the view from the Hollywood sign."

Here is a close up of Lizzy Squirrel enjoying the view.

Ecstasy

My prompt today was ecstasy. Yet again another word that could easily not be Squirrel Girl appropriate.
Ecstasy - a trance or trance-like state in which a person transcends normal consciousness.
For me, music and dance puts me in a state of ecstasy.  It has always been that way, it is my escape, which is most likely why I got such a huge high in musical theater.
"Squirrel Girl, enters into ecstasy when she puts her headphones on."
This is what she is jamming to today :)

Brown

Brown. I was not excited to add brown to my illustrations considering Lizzy is already brown enough. The first two searches that come up in Google for Brown is Brown University and Brown Recluse Spider. I was going to go with Lizzy sporting a spiffy Brown University sweatshirt, but I just didn't think that would fit Lizzy's personality.
So I went with how Lizzy would interact with a Brown recluse spider. Granted I myself  an not afraid of spiders but I figure one that can kill you I may be a bit more skidish around.

"Squirrel Girl, Didn't know that the arachnid just wanted a friend!"

Ah, come on  look into those six eyes he's not too scary.

Martin Luther King Jr. Day

It is Martin Luther King Jr. day, a wonderful day to be grateful for the freedom we have in America, and the progress our country has made.

"Lizzy Squirrel, knows you can never have a dream too immense, or too impossible!"

Hatred/Familial feelings/Harem

Most likely on the weekends I will be drawing everyday but not posting, I will put Friday, Saturday, and Sunday up on Sunday's. Thanks for anyone that's been following by the way feel free to give feed back if you are.

On the 17th the prompt was "Hatred".
"Lizzy Squirrel, had a severe disdain, hatred, and loathing for physical education!"

Day 18 my prompt was "Familal Feelings"
I used this photo from after I was born to illustrate Lizzy Squirrel's family.

"Lizzy Squirrel, is in a reminiscing type of mood."

Day 19 the prompt word was "harem", not too pc for Lizzy Squirrel. Then I realized I have always loved the look of  harem pants. Anytime they are used on So You Think You Can Dance, I love how they look. My most recent favorite was "My Homey Still" danced by Witney and Twitch. Inspiring Lizzy Squirrel to also "wait for the bus"

"Lizzy Squirrel, fancies herself as quite the skilled hip hopper!"

the lamplight

For today's prompt I finally decided to put some of my theatre know how to good use.
Let me introduce you to the ghost light, probably my favorite theatre superstition (and there are a ton of theatre superstitions). If you don't know all the superstition or history behind Ghost lights, I would encourage you to at least look it up on Wikipedia.
File:Sentinelle de théâtre.jpg
I was also in a show where I played the stage manager in the show within the show and had to lug the Ghost light out every show. So I guess you could say I have a personal attachment to it.

"Lizzy Squirrel, takes a bow... with two new friends."

Orange

My prompt for today was Orange. I decided to put Lizzy into the world of Annoying Orange.
If you do not know who Annoying Orange is I am not sure if I should enlighten you or not.
Because he is just that... annoying.
Annoying Orange and I have a love hate relationship. He started as a You Tube Channel and now has made it on to TV with his own show on Cartoon Network. The TV show has only one live human actor ( Toby Turner, a You-tuber who I have been watching for years now.) The rest of the characters are food in a food stand.

And if you really want to introduce yourself to Annoying Orange here is a little clip.
Do not say I didn't warn you!

Primary

Today's prompt word was primary.
Lizzy Squirrel in all primary colors... and just realized i forgot her mask.

"Lizzy Squirrel has some weird dreams but this has got to be the weirdest."

Really realizing how much one illustration a day is now. This was one of the first days I was not excited to do the drawing. Although I like how it came out it was a struggle.

had to add the mask. I really just love putting it in every illustration.

Allegory

I had no clue where to bring in an allegory for squirrel girl, I started looking up book references for famous allegory's, then Lizzy Squirrel ended up in some of my favorite books (although I have never actually read Fight Club). Just thought it would be fun to illustrate.
I am assuming everyone knows the references but if not here is a little glimpse.

Dorthoy Gale - Wizard of Oz
naive, young and simple, represents the American people. She is Everyman, led astray, and seeking the way back home.

The Ring - Lord of the Rings
The one ring illustrates how evil can entice and enslave. Wearing a wedding ring for instance announces our devotion and loyalty to their owner.

Effie Trinket-Hunger Games
The Capitols fashion and actions are a very modern allegory of today's celebrities ruling America and our decisions in our actions, fashion, and demeanor.

Tyler Durden - Fight Club
Wikipedia says "the post-war trauma in dealing with fascist destruction." yah sure Wiki sure.

"Follow the one ring, to the capitol, prepare for a fight."

Turn-of-the-century Europe

The prompt for today was "Turn-of-the-century Europe". If I ever have no clue what to do for the day, I honestly just Google image search it. Some of my favorite images that popped up were of these very classy women biking around town.

This one reminds me of my favorite fashion icons, The Gibson Girls. Such a beautiful advertisement.

I would night mind going on a little Europe trip about now.
"Lizzy Squirrel, is on a terrific, tricycle, tourist, trip!"

Our last good night

Day 11! Prompt: Our Last Good Night

When I was younger  I had a night time routine that  was ridiculously long and it got longer as I got older. It started as just a simple Good Night and progressed to what I have illustrated here.

"Good night, sleep tight, don't let the bed bugs bite, kiss kiss, hug hug, see you in the manana."
This was also the first drawing without Lizzy Squirrel in it but I really like it.
and now with a little pre-squirrel girl magic :)

Bath House

Day 10 prompt word : Bath House

Bubbles in a bath house!
I love adding the very small details that no one notices but me.
"Big, bubbly, overflowing, hot tub suds, were a monumental success!"

Dojo

Day 9: Dojo
this is one circumstance Lizzy Squirrel would never find herself in and I guess that is where she had to tie on that green mask and have Squirrel Girl kick some major butt. ;)
"Squirrel Girl earned a new belt, to match her big, bright, beautiful, mask"

The closest I ever got to a dojo when I was younger was watching the movie 3 ninjas. Watching this video takes me back.

A wordless look that communicates meaning.

soooooo..... I totally didn't follow the prompt on this one but I said from the start part of the goal of this year was to write a script for the illustrations also.
I still think it fits the prompt to a certain extent though.
Prompt : a wordless look that communicates meaning.
"Words can not explain Lizzy Squirrel today."
I also am going to start putting  Squirrel Girls mask in every drawing that Lizzy Squirrel is not wearing it.

Grey

Day 7! Prompt: Grey

At first I was going to draw Lizzy Squirrel in grey scale but as I looked around I decided to go with a grey mood. I think the greatest example of a grey mood in children's books ever would have to have been Eeyore from Winnie the Pooh.
“There is only one rain cloud in the sky… and it’s raining on me. Somehow I’m not surprised.” Eeyore
"Lizzy Squirrel, is throwing a pity party for one."
I am sure Eeyore would join her if she traveled to the Hundred Acre Wood.

Underwater City

Today's prompt: Underwater City
I am not a Sponge Bob fan but the first idea I had was to draw Lizzy Squirrel as Sandy since she is too a squirrel. But as I searched underground cities I found a city park which gets flooded every year after Austria's winter thaws.
http://www.webburgr.com/underwater-park/
This Site has beautiful pictures of it.

I had fun sketching this one out.

And Finished!
"Lizzy Squirrel, sometimes wonders if joining the city park and the city pool, was a tremendously good idea."

Nap Time

Today is Sunday, how appropriate that the prompt for today was "nap time".
I knew right away that Lizzy Squirrel would take a nap with her bum in the air, (Since I myself did when I was younger).
I by no means meant to make this look like a fire and smoke cloud. But alas that is what yellow and orange combined do.
" Running around with a green mask on all day, can make little Lizzy Squirrel rather exhausted!"

Hopefully the details helped it look a little less like a raging fire coming out of her nightlight.

I can't just leave well enough alone, I just really couldn't leave Lizzy's room on fire... I mean she lives in a tree it just wouldn't be right.
Good Night little Lizzy Squirrel
