Reason

I admit it. I threw amazing tantrum when I was younger. My moms favorite phrase was "Lizzy! quit making mountains out of mole hills!" which would make me freak even more. One of the biggest tantrum starters was feeling the hem of my sock on my toes. Yep. that was me in a nutshell.

I made a solar system in jr. high that I was so proud of. I think it was another indicator of the creative minded person i have become.

Valentine's Day

There was once a little boy named Michael, he was the son of a woman  who was on my mom's softball league. Michael and I caught bugs together and gave them names. Michael was my first head over heals crush. This is my homage to him.

A big City

Shirley Temple

Today's prompt was "a large city", but after I heard about Shirley Temple passing away I decided to honor her with a illustration. I used to love watching her, I'm pretty sure I have seen everyone of her movies, and am watching Rebecca of Sunny-brook Farm currently.

The red polka dot dress she wore in Stand and Cheer was always my favorite.
She was seriously such a talented person at such a young age.
I could see why she was such a success in the depression, it's hard not to smile watching her dance, sing and act so well.

Welcome Home

This one was interesting for me. I have moved around a lot, and am never sure how to answer the questions where is your home? or better yet Where are you from? For anyone that does not know my time line, I was born in California and now live in Nebraska, in between there I  lived  in Kansas, Colorado, and Minnesota. All  off these states or places hold a soft spot for me for one reason or another.
Sketching this one out took awhile, so I thought I would include a process shot.

I really love how this one came out.

I was such a bookworm when I was little, this illustration captures a big part of my childhood.

This year one of my other goals was to read at least a chapter of a book a night. Thus far I have read 4 books. Love getting back to my bookworm status.

Carpe Diem

My first reaction to  "Carpe Diem" for a prompt was Dead Poets Society but I've honestly only watched that movie once, and as I was reflecting on it all I could think was Newsies with "Seize the day". I will probably need to stop using musicals and movies as a reference soon, but honestly it is so fun.

And if you don't know the beauty of Newsies let me enlighten you.

Opium Den

I really do feel like inappropriate prompts bring about my favorite illustrations. When I got Opium Den, I almost skipped the word but I thought I could stretch it to something fun. This rings back to Wizard of Oz when the poppy field puts Dorothy and her friends to sleep.
It just occurred to me some may not know Opium is made from a certain type of Poppy. So it works, for this prompt... right? :)

Groundhog Day

Happy Groundhog Day! looks like 6 more weeks of winter.

I was not really a fan of this one but I always wanted to make a drawing work, instead of trashing it.

So I went back the next day and added some better details.
